The Power of Prayer

Sport had a big decision to make today. He had been preparing for over a month for the debate tournament at his elementary school and he was so excited when he qualified for the regional meet at Bingham. Then the baseball schedules came out.

His first game was at 5:30, right on top of the debate meet. I was devastated for him, but I knew it was important for him to make the decision. He loves sports, but were they really the most important thing to him?

When I presented the dilemma, he promptly chose the debate meet and in the same breath, he thought maybe we could pray for rain. I don't know if you have been following the weather here in Utah, but we have had a winter with almost no snow and very little rain. We are likely facing a drought, so although April is often pretty wet here, rain wasn't necessarily a given.

I've been asking everyone all week to pray for rain today, and we were happy to hear the forecast call for 70% chance of showers. It started to rain in the early afternoon, and by 4:30, they still hadn't cancelled the games. The ground was wet, but the rain had mostly stopped.

I dropped Sport off all dressed up in his suit with his portfolio in hand and a big smile on his face. He was ready.

Twelve minutes later they cancelled the games.

We don't know how well he did in the meet yet, but he definitely learned that Heavenly Father loves him enough to open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing in the form of a spring rainstorm at just the right time and in just the right place.

I love this. I love that you let him decide which he wanted to participate in, and love that he said we could pray for rain. So glad you got rain so he didn't have to miss a game too! We're in a drought here, but I think we're getting rain this weekend!
