Field Trip! Hill Aerospace Museum

We always try to do fun things with the kids when they are out of school so we can build memories and spend time together....

...and earn merit badges.

OK, it's been a long time since I have shared all of our merit badge adventures with you. Can you believe Sport is actually old enough to earn them now? He got his first one, Digital Technology, a couple of weeks ago and yesterday he finished his second one, Aviation.

He did it a little differently than the Dog Walker. He earned most of it at a Merit Badge Pow Wow and then instead of taking a trip to the airport, we thought it would be fun to take the whole family to the Aerospace Museum at Hill Air Force Base.

We have been there several times and the kids love it! It's free, which is my favorite part, but it is also full of huge airplanes. They even have an older model of Air Force One in there as well as the Candy Bomber's plane and probably 100 others.

They start with replicas from the early days of flying and include all kinds of war planes and helicopters. Not models, real actual airplanes... They have old flying suits and some fun videos. The kids love the playroom with its flight simulator and games, but it wasn't open this time for some reason.

Some of the largest airplanes are outside and we got to walk all around them. The ones inside the building are all corded off so you can't get close enough to touch most of them, but that's OK, they are still amazing! We spent a couple of hours wandering around and taking pics. The merit badge requirement said to just record thoughts, so it wasn't too complicated. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the idea of earning all those badges (or even a portion of them) again with Sport only to look forward to doing it again with Curly, but a small part of me is excited too.

I just need to remember to see everything through their eyes because even though I have been through them all before with the Dog Walker, for them, it's a whole new world.
