Love the Aquarium!

After we showered the sand off her kids, Baby Doll, Curly, Princess and her clean littles, went with me to the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium.

In the spring, when Bossy and Gamer bought their annual pass, they named me as one of their guests. (Thanks, guys!!) We love the Aquarium, but it is really too expensive without the pass.

Princess had only been there one other time with her kids, so it was a fun treat for them.

When we had seen everything (Duchess loved the sharks!), I took Cutly to football practice and Baby Doll went to spend the night at Princess's house.

Such a fun day!!

Flooding the Sandbox

We couldn't possibly let the last of the sunny summer days pass by without sharing with the grandkids one of our most beloved traditions... flooding the sandbox.

Back in the day, when we couldn't even afford to take the kids swimming, my sweetie would run a hose to our huge sandbox and water the trees behind it while providing the kids with an amazing water experience.

We got all the Utah grandkids who were not old enough to have full-time jobs and my sweetie hosted a grand party.

There were juice boxes and little cakes. Some of us didn't get wet. It was my job to do pictures and lunch. What was their job again?

Others were just a bit nervous, although my sweetie said she finally gave it  try.

It was an amazing party! Right, Skittles?

Guest Blog: 1000 Day Anniversary by Sister Crafty

It has been a crazy week. Today marks 1,000 days since I started my mission back in 2019 so that's pretty crazy.

My mission story is pretty rare and I am old in the mission now so I guess you can call me an antique 😂 What a crazy journey this has been!

The main important updates for this week is I unexpectedly got a new companion and now I am trying to lead the area after being here for only two weeks. So that's been funny!

For those inquiring minds that are wondering when my homecoming will be, it will be on August 14th. I forgot what time my home ward church is but save the date! I love you all!

Sincerely,

-Sister Crafty (Your favorite lost antique)

Annual Family (backyard) Campout

So last year before Elder Sport left on his mission, the one thing he wanted to do was have a big family campout. We had a great time!

We had so much fun that a bunch of the kids bought their own camping gear so they would be ready for this year. But I was slow trying to reserve a campsite and by the time I got my act together, all the best ones were taken.

Then my sweetie suggested we have the campout here over the 24th. We started early in the morning with the DC League of Super Pets preview at Jordan Commons.

Then we came back to the house for sandwiches and watermelon before we piled back inour cars and made a quick trip to the pool in Herriman.

After a couple of hours, we came back to the house for games and crafts. The kids had a great time using the leather tools to stamp bracelets.

We set up tents while my sweetie tended to the dutch ovens. We had a family favorite, chicken stew with peach cobbler for dessert. Some would rather drive than eat...

It was too hot to eat outside.

My sweetie dumped the last of the coals into the firepit and they were just right for making s'mores.

Time for fireworks!!

And much bigger fireworks!!

Then off to bed, dreaming we were pioneers sleeping outside and making our way to Utah... ok, that's a little much, but it was Pioneer Day.

Sweet dreams.

REVIEW - DC League of Super Pets

Remember when we went to the Summerpalooza last month? The kids were so excited to take pictures with the DC League of Super Pets! So when they emailed me last week and asked if we wanted to see the movie, I promptly asked them if this time I could take all my little grandkids (except my New Jersey ones, of course). They said, "Yes!!" So on Saturday morning, we all showed up in our jammies at Jordan Commons for the 10:00 AM preview.

We took up almost a whole row with all the mommies and daddies. They made balloon animals for us and we got all kinds of swag so we could all be superheroes too.

Everyone enjoyed the movie! There was enough humor for grownups to keep even my sweetie engaged and laughing.

My favorite was Batman's dog, but he doesn't start out that way... Enough spoilers!

This is one DC Marvel movie you can take all the kids to (we did!!) and they will love it. Baby Doll is 11 years old now and she just confirmed that she loved the movie and she even shed a couple of quick tears in one part... Dang, more spoilers!

It will be in theaters everywhere starting Friday, July 29, 2022. Have fun!!

Traveling Together - Epic Girl Scout Trip, Day 2

We didn't get back to our hotel rooms until nearly midnight, so some of the girls struggled to get up early. The free breakfast at the hotel only went until 9:30 and since we had lots to see on the way home, I wanted to be on the road by about 10.

We didn't quite make it, but we made good time and we got to Cove Fort only about a half an hour past our itinerary plan. We even had time to watch a little movie in the Hinckley cabin before we entered the fort.

Cove Fort was a waystation for weary travelers, not a fort for fighting. It is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and gave us an amazing look into pioneer life in Utah.

After about an hour of exploring, we loaded everyone up and headed for our next stop, the Fremont Indian Museum.

The girls loved this one!

Especially the play area.

We watched a movie there too...

And we went on a little hike to see the hieroglyphics.

The girls climbed down into an actual pithouse and then we ate lunch at some little picnic tables before climbing into the van. We had to hurry! Our last historical stop was almost ready to close.

We arrived at the Territorial Statehouse State Park in Fillmore at 4:30. That only gave us half an hour to tour this beautiful structure. I love looking at the hundreds of framed pictures on the walls and learning about the area that was supposed to be our State Capitol before they moved it to Salt Lake City.

We made one more stop for ice cream at Rowley's Red Barn in Santaquin. Not sure how I missed getting a pic there, but we were all definitely tired and ready to be home. Thankfully we had less than an hour to go. So much fun and amazing memories. I sure love these girls!

Traveling Together - Epic Girl Scout Trip, Day 1

Not long ago, my girls decided we needed to do something amazing as a troop, so we planned an overnight trip to St George. But in between here and there are SO many things! So we planned stops both ways.

We met early Monday morning, and piled everyone into our big van. First stop was Scipio and their free Petting Zoo.

It was a great place to work off some of those wiggles.

Our next stop was Snow Canyon State Park. We had planned to eat lunch there and it was overcast and nice when we arrived.

It wasn't long before the girls found something they would rather do than eat lunch. Soon Snow Canyon was too hot, so we made our way to St George, checked into our hotel, and got settled.
First order of business? Get in the pool!!

After a couple of hours in the pool, everyone got changed and we all ate pizza.

It wasn't long before it was time to climb into our cars and drive to Tuacahn.

That was the real reason for our destination and everyone was SO excited!!

The show was amazing and yes, it was David Archuleta...

I will save the rest of our trip for tomorrow. I'm sure you can hardly wait!

Guest Blog: Dog Bites and Glass Crosses by Elder Sport

Hey Everyone!

So here's the story. We're walking up to a members house, inviting them to church. There's lots of dogs always roaming around on the reservation, and most are pretty chill. We see a couple dogs, and one big white dog walks over from across the street, just chilling no bark or anything unusual. We talk to the member and start walking back to our truck, when this dog just unprovoked runs up and takes a bite of my back upper leg! It was the weirdest thing. So we go clean it and go back to the house, stupidly trying to ask the people ourselves if the dog had shots (probably not!) instead of calling animal control. We get there, no dog in sight. I let my companion get out and try to knock the door, he's been out like 4 days at this point, confident he can control the dog, and I'm not thinking straight. Long story short, he gets bit too and we both end up in the ER. We are blessed the bites didn't go deep enough to have to get rabies shots! We went straight to the city basketball courts and played and gave three of our friends Book of Mormons, so can't complain too much lol.

It's been great out here though, love the people and are trying to help lots of them get back to church. Everyone's situation is different, but one lady we worked with had a really hard few years, with her mom passing from Covid. As we walked in she had a beautiful glass cross on the table.  After complimenting it, she told me the story, of how it showed up in the hospital room of her mom just before she passed, and after many attempts of asking, nobody knows who brought it in. It was an amazing experience hearing her stories.

My son, (Trainee) Is Elder Heinrich! He's from Texas which is cool! We got lots of work to do!

Scripture:

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Remember as you go about this week that we are all vessels of the Lord! Let us do our best to be clean, meet and prepared for the master's use!

Love you guys,

Elder Christensen
