Whenever anyone asked me why we wanted to go to Arizona where the weather was even hotter than Salt Lake City, my best answer was that we really wanted to watch the Diamondbacks play.
There is just something about being in a major league baseball stadium...Curly really wanted to get a baseball, so when I bought tickets online, I chose the 1st baseline, right near the foul line pole. What I didn't know was that the ballpark has a huge net that runs just past where our seats were located. We were a little disappointed, but Curly quickly made friends with the guy just inside the wall who was responsible for gathering up the foul balls and tossing them into the crowd. It wasn't long before one of those balls landed in his mitt.We loved the game. Sadly, the crowd was small, likely because the Suns were playing in the NBA finals next door. In fact, they kept flashing clips from that game onto our screen. We don't follow the MLB well enough to know that the Diamondbacks rarely win even in their own stadium, but when the game was tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th, we had every confidence in their abilities to pull it off without extra innings. The first batter hit a single, 2nd batter walked, 3rd batter walked and the bases were loaded with one out. We were screaming and yelling right along with everyone else. One more walk and the Diamondbacks would win! When the next pitch came, the ball hit the batter! Game over and a win just for us... at least we like to think so.
