Traveling as Two - Snorkling in Turtle Bay

Before I left Utah, I was really excited to try snorkling. I'm a pretty decent swimmer and I'm not afraid of water. Then the crazy stuff happened a few days ago and that snorkling was a bust...

We had our snorkling class scheduled for about noon on Monday. My sweetie had already said he would come, but he didn’t want to get in the water. It was windy and choppy and I was wishing I wasn't getting in the water either, or on the boat for that matter.

Like a good girl, I took my Dramamine right on schedule since I hate being motion sick. It didn't help...

But let me back up a bit.

I got in the water after falling off the ladder on the 2nd rung. That was only the beginning and it started with a big mouthful of salty sea water. They gave us tiny life jackets made for snorking, but the choppiness of the water convinced me to ask for what they called a banana.

I put it under my chest and I finally got my bearings. The one thing I hadn’t anticipated was the choppy water pulling us away from the boat.

I was forced to continuously kick my feet so I wasn't swept away.

I saw a couple of sea turtles and a bunch of black and white striped fish that were about 8 inches long.

But all that kicking was exhausting for this old lady and pretty soon I dragged myself back up the ladder and onto the deck.

That's when I realized that the choppy water was making my stomach do somersaults.

Let's jump to the end...

I did NOT vomit! But I didn’t want to do anything else either. So we went back to our hotel room.

My sweetie made me a nice dinner...

He also took some fantastic pics from our little deck.

Happy Monday!

Traveling as Two - Hawaii Tabernacle

On Sunday morning, we headed out to find a church. Thankfully, the nearest Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints happened to be the Hawaii Tabernacle. In a word, it was AMAZING!!

After church, we decided to try another museum. We had heard good things about the Bishop Museum and it was close by...

Back at our room, we took a little rest before dressing up a bit and heading out again for the Moana Splash Luau.

Such a great day!

Traveling as Two - Sea Life Park Hawaii

Saturday turned out a bit differently than we planned. Our basket weaving class was cancelled, so we canceled everything else and rewrote our day

We started at our day at Sea Life Park Hawaii. We were surprised how small the park was compared with other places we had been. But the drive to get there was amazing!

My favorite part was the dolphin show.

The  sea turtles were cool and the sharks feeding frenzy came in 3rd.

After the park (they have awesome food, by the way), we went to the Honolulu Museum of Art. I'm not usually a fan of fine arts museums, but I wanted to see the regional stuff and my sweetie wanted to see the Monet.

When our feet were tired, we headed back to our room. My sweetie cooked a yummy dinner and then we went up on the roof for a late swim.

It was a perfect day!

Traveling as Two - Polynesian Cultural Center

Friday was a crazy day. We started out with our required presentation early Friday morning. They wanted us to buy into their timeshare, but we politely declined... more than once. So many times, in fact, that we were late for our shoreline fishing appointment.

Our guide was pretty cool and we still got about 40 minutes of fishing time, which was just enough time to get tired, but not long enough to catch anything.

We left our fishing spot on the North Shore and we got on the Road to the Polynesian Cultural Center. It should have taken us 45 minutes or less, but we finally pulled in after an hour and a half.

The first thing we did was climb into a canoe.

We tried a little spear-throwing and the exhibits were pretty cool.

Finally, we hopped on the bus to see the Laia temple. The sister missionaries were so cute.

They showed us BYU - Hawaii...

And the amazing Laia temple.

In the Visitor's Center, they even showed us the perfect little model of the temple.

We had dinner in the ginormous buffet.

Then we walked over to the theater to watch their live show.

They did a great job, especially the fire dancers.

Finally, it was time to drive back to the hotel. The traffic was much easier this time.

It was a great day!
