Guest Blog: Halloween 2026 by the Dog Walker

It seems that nowadays, Mom's been asking me to write on her blog for her, but for some good reasons. First, she's been preparing her presents to give to Drama Queen, Teach, and her family in New Jersey for Christmas. She's also preparing other presents for other families. Second, she started editing on my latest Samy Kind book, which will be a Holiday Exclusive story to publish, and I'm excited about that.

But what I'm excited to talk about right now is how Halloween turned out for me and the family. I've been helping Mom get some ham and bean soup ready for Halloween dinner, along with some homemade apple cider, which we were a little short of. So we improvised by adding store-bought apple juice to mix into it. (We suspect that Curly drank so much of it before he embarked on his mission in Baltimore). She and I prepared the treats to give to the children in costumes. I was really excited to give out the treats to the kids, just to watch them go through the corn maze.

I put on some fun Halloween music to go along with the party. Baby Doll, Scout, K, and M showed up to dress up like the Fates from Hadestown. They also set up a really nice inside display of their spooky candles to put on the living room coffee table. I added the shimmering pumpkin that Mom gave me to go with it, along with some blood stained lightbulbs.

I dressed up in my latest Halloween costume ever. That's right! I dressed up as a big pile of money! A lot of the teenage girls in costumes thought it was really clever, that they even asked for a dollar off it, but I just gave them a treat, not wanting to deceive them with fake money. Plus, it wouldn't be fair to the other kids. Even when Mom had some treats to give to the kids, I always had back-up treats to give out, because we really hate to be one of those neighbors who runs out of candy.

Beauty and the Beast dropped off Little Warrior and Little Squire to come trick-or-treating at our house, and Bossy and her kids trick-or-treated our whole neighborhood. Her little daughter sure was cute when liking to dance to the Halloween songs with Mom. I'm sure that Dad up in heaven is really proud that I still continue on with the tradition of a corn maze and giving out treats to the kids. I would always wonder if he would've thought it was silly of the way I paid tribute to him with the display. Happy Halloween 2026!

PS, those cute owls were sneak-or-treated by Bossy. Isn't that a clever place to put them?
