Guest Blogger: The Bridal Shower by the Dog Walker (and Cat Lover)

This has been one of the most fun opportunities in our lives for me and Cat Lover before our wedding date. You might all be aware or not that our wedding date is March 2nd. That's the day of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Cat Lover didn't want the wedding reception on that day to be styled in a Dr. Seuss universe, she wanted it to be Springtime, so we decided to do a Dr. Seuss themed Bridal Shower. I wasn't quite sure how that was going to work with me and Cat Lover, but Cat Lover loves Dr. Seuss as well as I do. We decided to come up with clever ideas that can represent almost all of the Dr. Seuss books.

It was amazing that Drama Queen had come up with such a clever idea after researching reception and shower ideas. I have a bunch of the stuffed animals and different books that also represent their personality and characteristics. We had to reserve our stake center in order to have the certain day to invite some neighbors, friends, and family members to come for the Open House Shower. It was a little stressful to try to make things look great, but we managed to get it all ready before the guests arrived.

I might as well describe how we represented Dr. Seuss books in the bridal shower decorations. We made sugar cookies that are the shape of the Truffula fruits from the Lorax as well as making little Truffula trees inside jars as centerpieces. We even blew up balloons that represent Oh the Places, You'll Go, as well as having the book for guests to write thoughtful advice for both me and Cat Lover. We had deviled eggs and ham with the deviled eggs being green, to represent Green Eggs and Ham. We also used Swedish Fish packets as the Dr. Seuss One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, book.

As always, our mom has made a quilt for us to tie up that Cat Lover and I will snuggle inside it in the future. The quilt has been sewn into the patterns that were lastly made before my Mom's grandma passed away. She made the crazy blocks stitched up and my mom used those blocks to make this quilt. A lot of people showed up at the shower, but some of them didn't stay for very long. It took us hours for the whole party to go through and to get the entire quilt sewn.

And as always for bridal showers, the guests brought us gifts that were most likely accessories and necessities that we'll be needing by the time we have a home of our own after we live in the little apartment down in the basement. Although some of the gifts that the guests gave us were duplicates, and they told us that one of them can be returned and that we'll be able to use the refund for something that no one ever thought of buying as a household appliance. Cat Lover and I had a really fun time with this bridal shower! This will definitely be something to remember for me and Cat Lover. We're now looking forward to the wedding.

Field Trip to Zion's Bank

We took the Girl Scout troop on a field trip today to visit Zion's Bank. We were missing a couple of girls, including Crafty, who was decorating for the Sweethearts' Dance tomorrow, but we piled into the big van anyway.

The bank manager met us at the door and we moved into a conference room for a little talk about credit and how we can use it to our advantage. The girls listened well and were engaged in the conversation. After watching a short video from Mary Poppins, we went on a tour. My favorite part was the chance to go into the vault. The girls were pretty impressed with the solid, thick door and the many locks.

As we were leaving, each girl was given a sucker. We had a great time! Thanks, Zion's!

The License

I went with Dog Walker and Cat Lover to the county courthouse this morning so they could buy a marriage license. It's hard to believe we are less than 30 days away from the big day! Time is just whizzing by so quickly and life keeps changing all around me. Some days it feels like I can't keep up.

My girl scout troop has added 4 new members this month and my family has added 2. Our troop sold 3500 boxes of cookies while we planned and prepared for the Dog Walker's wedding. I'm not sure how I have made it through the better part of the last month without my sweetie, but I know I'm glad it's almost over.

When we were up at Utah State, we had tickets to see the various plays, and one of them has stuck with me. It was called "Stop the World." Sometimes I wonder if that would be a good idea. At least until I catch up...
