Pictures from last year's Nutcracker |
Nutcracker is coming up this week and I can’t even concentrate on anything else. I mean, I told my mom I would write this post and totally forgot, I left Fajita at the dance studio and I keep staring off into space with visions of Sugar Plums dancing in my head. I’ve always wanted a lead role, especially one where I get to dance with a boy. So when I was put in as the Sugar Plum Fairy/Princess, I was so excited! Yesterday was our last practice before the dress rehearsal and I had a mental list of all the things we really needed to work on.
Then, I found out my partner was not there because he was sick (something he did not mention when I was messaging him, I
think he didn’t want me to stress, he knows me pretty well). I’m just
praying he will be there for next week, I mean, I don’t think I can
really do all those turns by myself and I think it would probably look
really silly if I tried to do the lifts by myself.
Now
let’s get a few things straight. My partner is the greatest, like
seriously. He has taught me so many things in the few weeks together and
he has the craziest stories. Here’s one of them:
"My little brother was about five or six and my other brother
had just been born. We had given the five-year-old one a doll so he
could have his own baby. It seemed like a good idea until one day my mom
walked in on him kicking the doll into a tower of blocks. Any mom would
be upset, but she was terrified because she thought it was the real
baby. Thank goodness it wasn’t."
Nutcracker has affected the whole family. My teacher told me I could only listen to my music so now the whole family goes around humming Tchaikovsky. I have practiced some part of my dance with every one of my siblings and even Gamer (that was a funny moment). Crafty loves to partner with me and she is constantly trying to do it. Strangely, she only likes doing the boy part. One day we were practicing pas de chats in between dances and the actual boys came and told Crafty what she was doing wrong. She was a little offended but it was funny to see them explain what hand and what foot work to do.
I’m
so grateful I have gotten this opportunity. It is literally a dream
come true. I have loved every second of South Pointe Ballet’s Nutcracker
and I’m so excited to perform this week. If you have the time, come
stop by and see it. Hopefully I will have a partner by then, it not, Crafty should know what to do.

Good luck to everyone in the Nutcracker!
What a fun post! I think it is so awesome that you are having a dream fulfilled. I will certainly pray that your partner is feeling better for this one.
I am sure you will be blessed for all your hard work.
