First Day of Summer Vacation

It really is the first day of summer vacation and the last day of school for my elementary-aged kids. I went to the Awards Program this morning and watched Crafty get all sorts of awards. As a 6th grader, she was up for way more than the other grades. Sport earned his Algebrain award, his Soaring Eagle award and his Golden Sneaker. Scout earned her Soaring Eagle and her Golden Sneaker. But Crafty walked away with way more than that.

She earned her Soaring Eagle, her Golden Sneaker, her Algebrain Award, the Safety Patrol captain award, and then she earned two awards that were given to only a handful of students. She received the Principal's Citizenship Award and the President's Excellence in Education award. We were so proud!

I rushed right home after the assembly to finish packing the last minute stuff for our trip. I still had a million things to do. The kids got home from school just before 1:00, we ate a quick lunch and were out the door by about 1:30.

The drive was pretty uneventful. We headed through Price and stopped in Green River for gas and such. When we got back on the freeway the GPS had turned itself off so we missed our exit. Thankfully we only drove one exit before we were able to turn around get on the road to Moab. We stopped and made sandwiches in Monticello and finally arrive in Cortez around 8:30.

After we checked into the hotel the kids wanted to get immediately into the pool. It was warm and fun with some cute boys for the girls to flirt with. We played until nearly 10:00 then retired to our rooms. It's going to be a big day tomorrow! The Dog Walker is taking an archaeology class so we are seeing Mesa Verde tomorrow. Then it's on to Albuquerque with a few stops on the way.

The internet is so slow in this hotel that I promise I will put up pictures tomorrow, but my sweetie is saying we have to be on the road by 8:30, so I'm heading off to bed. It's been a long day.
