Baby Doll's 1st Volleyball Tournament

The volleyball season has officially started! On Friday, Baby Doll skipped school and we headed for Syracuse. I was only an hour or so, but we didn’t want to drive home late and come back early, so my sweetie used his Marriott points to find us a free hotel for the night.

We didn’t have much time after checking in before we had to drive 10 minutes to the tournament site.  Baby Doll was playing outside hitter, but she was still subbing in and out. With about 10 girls on the team, only an elite few played all the time.

After the first few sets, Baby Doll stopped subbing out.

Pool play ended early and we got back to the hotel in time for Baby Doll to have a quick swim.

Dinner and a movie and we tried to sleep. We had to be at the gym in Kaysville at 7:15AM.

More pool play before they were assigned the Bronze bracket.

Volleyball days are long and there is lots of waiting while other teams play.

And the gyms are all so cold!!

But Baby Doll continued to play. It was rare that she ever subbed out. The final game was against another GSL team. They split and went to a third tiebreaker game.

14 - 14!! It was a nail-biter, but our girls finally came out on top, 14 - 16!!

We got home just after 6. It was a long day, but a good one.

So proud of my girl.

More Volleyball Games

The high school volleyball season is almost over.

I love watching Baby Doll play.

She is just so good at what she does!

Who says she has a 2-inch vertical? I have proof!! That girl can jump!

Grass Volleyball

Baby Doll had the opportunity to play in her first grass volleyball tournament last Saturday. It was SO hot!!

They played hard.

Baby Doll served 10 in a row, but it wasn't enough. They ended up with 3rd place.

But she had fun!!

Such a Whirlwind

Life is such a whirlwind lately! Between writing and submitting our ZAP grant for the ballet, dance, baseball and volleyball games, school, Grandpa, remodeling Grandpa's house, scouts and cookies, graduations, family stuff and doctor's visits, my head is spinning...

This weekend is Baby Doll's last volleyball tournament, and rather than drive all the way from Heber City, we decided to get a room in Midway at a ridiculously fancy place called Zermatt. That's what happens when you wait until the last minute to decide or maybe because you were swept up in all those things in paragraph 1.

Isn't she cute? Anyway, Baby Doll is doing an amazing job in the Friday night of this 2-day tournament. Her team won every game, likely throwing them into the Gold bracket, but we will know for sure tomorrow.

They are missing a couple of girls so Baby Doll has been playing setter half the time and hitter the rest of the time. She is amazing!

Here are more cute pics of her if I can get enough bandwidth to add them. Just one more strike against fancy old hotels. And don't get me started on resort fees that you don't get to use, not even a little.

She doesn't like the distracion of pics during the game, but hey, what's a little pain for posterity?

Baby Doll's Volleyball Obsession

My cute girl loves volleyball. Last Saturday she spent more than 12 hours straight at a tournament. Here's a few pics for you...

Baby Doll has a Ball

Baby Doll just loves volleyball so much. Today was her 2nd to last tournament for this season. The team came out a little sluggish at first, but Baby Doll played well. These tournaments are a little crazy. They have to be there at 7:30 AM and they play three matches (six games) and ref one game before about noon.

They get a few minutes for lunch before the actual bracket starts. Teams are shuffled from pool play... so of the 16 teams her age playing yesterday, they placed them 1 - 4 based on win/loss record from the morning play. Baby Dolls team was the 3rd group. So of the four courts her age playing, they sorted them into all of the team that placed third. They become the Bronze bracket and then it is a win or go home.

(I wish I could serve like she does.) Her team lost their first game, so they were done, but if they would have won, they would have played one more game to become the champions of the Bronze bracket. It's all a little confusing, I think.

But SO much fun to watch her play!
