He asked Sport to do it.
Sport is in his 4th season as an umpire and he always switches fields when he happens to get assigned to Sport's games so there is no conflict of interest.
Lots of firsts today...

Just a Practice Game
Curly's coach scheduled a practice game for Saturday morning, but because it was only a practice game, he had to find his own umpire.
Not today. Even Beauty and The Beast showed up in support of this phenomenon.
It was not Curly's best game. Pitching with Sport behind the plate was much harder than he imagined.
This was the first time I have been able to watch Sport ump an entire game. Usually he prefers to keep family out of his audience.
