Graduation Party

I know you are probably tired of hearing about my awesome graduates, but I wanted to share just a few pictures from their graduation party last Sunday.

We sent the invites out way back in April/early May, so we didn't know how many of our family and friends would support us. That made it difficult to calculate for food, so of course we made way to much just to be sure.

My sweetie set up the two canopy tents we bought ten years ago for Bossy's wedding reception and we pulled out all of our folding tables and chairs. I had some plastic tablecloth I bought at Sam's Club and the Dog Walker did all the decorating.

About two weeks ago I sent him to the dollar store with $10 to buy whatever he wanted to use for decorations. He came back with a couple of signs and a necklace for each graduate to wear in their school colors. He spent all the rest of the money on bubbles with little mortarboards on  top! I was smarter the second time. I sent Teach and she brought home some confetti and a few other things.

We had a fun party with food and friends and family. Some we hadn't seen for quite a while! Thanks for all those who supported us in person. We love you all. And thanks to my amazing internet friends for always being there for me.

The Cookie Party

Sport and Scout bouncing.
I told you a couple of weeks ago about Scout and Teach going to the special cookie party for 1000-box sellers. Well, yesterday was the party for all the rest of the girls. We used to attend this party every year, but we haven't been there for about the last five years because the girls have normally danced at an arts festival this weekend, but for some reason, the festival is next week this year.

The party started at noon and went until three. We got there right after the gates opened, but the lines were long and the sun was hot. By the time we got in, I was starting to wish we had just stayed home. But the kids were so excited to see the giant bounce houses and we found a table with shade for those of us who were just watching, so it was OK.

Drama Queen and Sport doing Crafts.
After some bouncing and a little dancing, we got our box lunches and filled up on sloppy joes, chips, and cookies. The sun was still beating down on us, so we went inside to play carnival games. Lines were deep, with at least 10 people in each line, but the prizes were pretty good so we settled in to wait. The Drama Queen took Baby Doll and Sport to the craft lines. They were shorter and there were plenty of supplies. I was surprised how quickly the lines moved. My favorite game was the basketball shoot and I really wanted to win. Princess and Prima Donna liked that game too, but it was not the hoops they were looking at. The guy running the booth was cute!

Scout on the Tightrope
Their third time through the line, Prima Donna asked him for his phone number (for Princess, of course, he was a little too short for her). The deal was that if Princess made three baskets in a row, she could have his number. Honestly, I was totally surprised by her efforts! A couiple of time she made two baskets, but she could not sink that third one. After their turn, both girls just went to the back of the line and started over.

After about 10 times through the line, Princess was about ready to give up. She was pretty sure he was interested in her (what red-blooded teenage boy wouldn't be???) but she still had no success. At ten minutes to 3:00, I told the girls we were heading outside so Scout could have a turn on the tightrope before they shut things down. I asked them to join us when they were through.

Twenty minutes later they joined us, laughing and giggling. "What's up?" I asked. "Did you get his number?" Princess blushed and smiled. "No," she admitted. "I gave him mine!" I congratulated her for her persistence and good job flirting and we headed for the van.
Baby Doll and Prima Donna

Not sure what she was thinking, but she moped around for the rest of the afternoon. I think she was expecting to hear from him immediately. I assured her that he was probably running another carnival and she would have to be patient.

About 6:00 she got her first text and over the last 24 hours they have shared a couple of dozen sentences. It sure is different from when we were kids. Without texting we actually had to talk to a crush on the phone or use snail mail. Of course back then I probably could have made three baskets in a row...

Update by Bossy

Momof12's router bit the dust sometime Saturday and she asked me to post a quick update. Sorry it ended up so late, but I had to wait for Gamer to get off the computer so I could post. We are celebrated out around here. Anyone for leftover cake?

Crafty at Play

A couple of weeks ago, Crafty came home with a huge packet of papers stapled together at the corner. She was excited! Her class was going to do a play. Not a big play, just one that would be performed in the classroom in front of other 5th graders and parents. It was about the founding of our country and she had a lead role.

It was based on Survivor...called Reviver...and she had the role of the host, Sally Sassafrass. She spent the better part of an entire week learning her lines and practicing them with her siblings. She had never had such a major role in a production and she was taking the part very seriously. OK, she was pretty much driving me nuts!

Last night when I asked her to verify the time, she said, "You don't really have to come if you don't want to." I was a bit confused. She had been practicing for weeks. "Why wouldn't I want to come?" I asked. "Well, my teacher said if you had to work or something, it wasn't that big of a deal..." she trailed off. "Since I don't have a job (Tupperware doesn't really count), I'm pretty sure I can come," I said. She shrugged her shoulders in that 5th-grade sort of way. "OK," she smiled.

My sweetie stayed home since it was his Friday off and he and I headed to the school just before 10:00. I think she was surprised, but pleased to see us both. She was right, the kids were not really dressed in costumes, but they had signs around their necks to identify who they were. And since they were in the classroom, there wasn't really a stage.

But the show was upbeat and fun, full of song and dance and of course my awesome Crafty. She had every line memorized perfectly! They have one more performance on Monday...I'm sending all the kids who are now out of school...since they don't have to go to work or something...
