So Tired

My sweetie is slaving away about 80 hours a week on a work project. It's almost like being a single mom. I see him for less than 30 minutes a day and it's a rare moment when I can talk to him at work. He is so tired.

So am I.

I know most of my insanity is of my own making, but that doesn't make it any easier. I feel like I'm just running from project to project, lesson to lesson, performance to performance and game to game. It never slows down.

As excited as I was to plan Scout's 9th birthday party with a Minnie Mouse theme, it has been overshadowed by the wedding and I'll now just be glad when it's over.

Anybody got ideas on how to simplify?

And don't suggest that I learn the word "no." For some reason it is just not in my vocabulary. If it were, I'd probably be 100 lbs lighter and a lot less stressed!

A Good Lesson

I learned a good lesson today. Never laminate anything colored in crayon.

So this is what happened. Bossy stayed up late last night making me a super cute poster to laminate and use for Scout's Minnie Mouse birthday party on Friday. We wanted the kids to play the "Pin the Bow on Minnie" game.

She dropped the poster off this afternoon and I took it to a local copy store for the lamination. As the lady was feeding it into the laminator, she said, "Did you use crayon on this?" That seemed that a silly question to me. I didn't even make the poster! "She rubbed a hand over the surface. "I don't know," I replied. "My daughter made it."

"It might smear a little..." Then she fed it the rest of the way through the machine. "It smeared." She announced.

"A lot."

That shadow across the face is all melted black crayon.

I was devastated. The poster was totally destroyed and to make matters worse, I still had to pay for the lamination!

Prima Donna??

My life is spiraling rapidly out of control. (Not that it was ever really in control...) Besides the wedding plans, and Christmas and Thanksgiving and Scout's birthday party on Friday and Taco's family party on Sunday, and the Nutcracker, and Saturday's dance team performance (I'm just getting started...), Thursday is the first showing of Peter Pan at Bingham High School.

I wasn't going to remind you about the show, but Prima Donna borrowed my phone and took pics of herself in her stage makeup to send to the Drama Queen, you know, one professional to another. They are disturbing, really. I can't wait to see her in costume, because I'm not even sure I will recognize her.

What do you think?

Name Change

I started my blog in 2011, almost 4 years ago now. I've blogged on all sorts of things, but today I'm going to do something I have never done before. I'm going to make a change to a blog name.

When Bossy and I sat down together on that dreary January day and came up with names for everyone, we tried to choose names that suited their personalities and interests. At the time, no one said anything about disliking their given name. It has only been for the last month or so that I knew the Gym Rat felt like his name was a bit degrading. When I probed further, he admitted that Gym Rat had a negative connotation.

I was a bit devastated.

I'm not sure why he didn't tell me before. We could have changed it long ago, but he is not the sort to want to stir up contention. And although it's not official yet, I have a second reason for changing his name. The Gym Rat has decided to ask his sweetheart to marry him! Next month!

We are madly making plans and today we bought him a new suit and the ties for the guys. There is SOO much to do! At least it is all fun and exciting.

So I asked my son what name he wanted to choose for himself and his sweet bride. They kicked around a few ideas and finally settled on... drum roll please ...

Beauty and The Beast.

He really isn't a beast, but she is definitely a beauty, so we will officially from this day forth change his name from Gym Rat to The Beast and in about 7 short weeks, he will be married to his Beauty. Hopefully I can share an official proposal story with you sometime in the next few days.

We are all so excited for them!
In the meantime, I need to get myself a notebook...
