Show Me "Paint the House"

Remember The Karate Kid? I felt like him last Saturday. We got home from Logan just in time to head over to Drama Queen's house. Last Saturday, Gamer painted her entire house a beautiful shade of gray, and I had promised Drama Queen that if she would help get my littles where they needed to be on Saturday morning, I would make sure our little crew was onboard to paint her trim when we got home.

I was so tired.

But we quickly got everyone painting. Crafty, Scout, Baby Doll, Drama Queen, my Sweetie and I all grabbed various brushes and rollers and we got started. Her house has wood siding and there were so many places that had trim! All around each window as well as any corner, the soffit and the chimney.

When I first started spreading the approved blue paint, it hardly looked different from the gray and I had a sinking feeling that I had made a bad choice, but my sweetie assured me that if would look brighter when it dried, and he was right,

It looked great! We painted until we could hardly move. As they were finishing the upper parts of the windows with the huge extended roller, I started weeding the little garden and by the time I had finished, I had gotten rid of most of the weeds in the entire corner of the yard.

The girls were still painting the last of the trim as my sweetie and I dragged ourselves to the van. We are not as young as we used to be.

Traveling as Two - Logan

We got up fairly early on Saturday morning. You know, most hotel breakfasts these days are grab n go, hardly worth getting up for, but not the Hampton Inn. They require plastic gloves and masks, but other than that, they feel almost like pre-pandemic days with a full breakfast bar.

We were just finishing up when the lights in the breakfast area flickered and then went out. The large lobby windows let in the morning sun, so it wasn't actually dark. My sweetie headed for the front desk and after he confirmed that our keycards would still work, we made our way to the stairs. As I told you yesterday, we were on the third floor, so it was a bit of a hike.
Our balcony windows gave us plenty of light to pack while we waited somewhat impatiently for the lights to come back on. We weren't excited about dragging our suitcases down the stairs, but as the minutes ticked by, it soon became inevitable. We checked out just before 11:00 still without power.
We didn't have time on Friday to drive around town much, so my sweetie took me up by the temple. Then we drove over to Utah State. It is very different from our days there, but the Creamery is still the same.
And their ice cream is still delicious!!

Unfortunately, it was time to leave. We had other weekend promises to keep and home was still two hours away. It was a good thing we were well-rested because the next 8 hours would be grueling...

Traveling as Two - Fast & Furious

Last Wednesday, I was casually scrolling through my email when I saw that the Megaplex was giving away a pair of tickets to every account holder to see the first Fast & Furious movie on Friday night. I quickly opened my app and I began flipping through screens. Our hometown Megaplex had already given away their max number of tickets, so I started hitting up each theater one at a time looking for empty seats.

Finally, I found a couple of seats at the University Theater. I knew that University Avenue was in Provo, so I figured we could still drive the hour home when the show got out around 10:30. I ordered popcorn using my points and a little cash to buy drinks and then, transaction completed, I started looking for the address.

It wasn't in Provo... it was in Logan!! It was two hours to Logan!

My sweetie noticed my distress and disappointment. Have I ever told you what a great guy I have? He listened to me lament and then he pulled out his app and booked us for Friday night at the Hampton Inn in Logan.

************

We arrived in Logan on Friday and drove straight to our favorite haunt during our college days at Utah State back in 1988. Angie's was busy, but not bad for a Friday night, and the food was delicious as usual.

After dinner, we headed to the Hampton so we could check in. We had a huge room on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking main street and a spectacular view of the Logan Temple.

My sweetie promised me a soak in the hot tub before the movie, and the Hampton has an awesome pool and the hot tub has a swim-thru to outside. We spent a while in both places until it was time to head back to our room to get ready.

It was only a short distance to the theater and after checking in and picking up our treats, we settled ourselves on the back row of the theater to watch the show.

And since this is getting so long, I will tell you the rest of the story tomorrow.

Scout Behind the Wheel

I have been spending an awful lot of time in the passenger's seat lately. Remember around the first of the year when Scout got her permit? Even though she got it in January, we had so many things going on and she was busy, so we didn't get time to put her in the driver's seat.

Lately, all that has changed! She loves driving and she is actually very good at it, in fact, of the 10 kids I have taught to drive, she is one of the very best. She is calm and confident, in my car and in hers.

Since Sport is almost 18 and will be moving on, I am so glad to have another driver to help me get Curly and Baby Doll where they need to go... and did I mention me? I need her to get me where I need to go.
