Planning a Single Day

Guess what we are doing?!

The invitations to the wedding reception arrived and we finally got the stickers today for the back so the three of us, me and the bride and the groom, were assembling invitations. They have so many friends in Texas and former mission companions that Teach's hand was cramped from doing all the writing.

I was in charge of the little shiny stickers (since they were my idea), and Twiz was the jack of all trades handling stamps and cutting twine, you name it, he was helping. Every time I plan a wedding I am amazed at how much goes into a single day in the lives of the happy couple.

Seriously, since Christmas, I have been mired in wedding plans every day. I've had Drama Queen as my personal assistant and we have worked really hard on the two big days, the first one, the shower, is next week. At least after that we can concentrate on just one.

Drama Queen is mostly in charge of the "Harry Potter" shower, something she and Teach have talked about for years and is finally happening, but not on the grand scale they were probably hoping for. Other than the quilts and financing the venture, I've mostly just helped settle food and been a sounding board. I did come up with the idea (and the mold) for the chocolate frogs. That's what Crafty is making in the kitchen.

But I don't really want to give away all of the secrets. You will have to tune in next weekend to see how it turns out. I did buy a huge container of gourmet jelly beans...

Returning Books

I spent my whole day chasing around doing random stuff for the wedding and various other things that are still going on believe it or not, like... school?

Princess, the Dog Walker, and Twiz all started back at college this week. My mind is so wrapped up in Teach's wedding, I'm having a difficult time getting my head around their new classes and schedules. And how is it that we have so much trouble getting the right textbooks?

I ordered most of them from the school's bookstore this time just so they would be right even though they cost a little more. I didn't have time to mess with problems. You would think they would know the right books for each class, wouldn't you?

Wrong!

Princess had to return three books to the bookstore (one that was an ebook) and buy a different one. She also had to return one to Chegg that we did manage to rent. The Dog Walker was signed up for an online nutrition class and yesterday they informed us that they were consolidating classes and he would have a new teacher. That was fine, except for the book I had already invested almost $150 on could be substituted for a $30 rental.

That will definitely be another return.

Now if I could just get Scout to find that missing library book...

Time for the Circus!

It's been a long time since we have been to the Jordan World Circus here. I see the free kid tickets every year at the grocery store and I always think I'm going to work it into my busy schedule and then it never happens. Except this year we changed school tracks so my little ones are all off-track during the circus! When they asked me if I would be willing to write a review in exchange for free tickets, of course I quickly agreed.

You know how much I love taking my kids on field trips during off track time, and last time we went to this circus, we had so much fun! The best part about the one in South Jordan anyway (and I'm assuming everywhere else) is that they choose small venues like the equestrian park so instead of being in nosebleed seats where we can hardly see anything without binoculars, we felt like we were actually part of the show. The action was all so close and so exciting. It might not be as dazzling as the bigger circuses, but then the ticket prices are much cheaper too.

My favorite part was the acrobats. They were amazing and as good as the ones we have seen elsewhere. And don't even get me started about the elephants. The kids loved them! Now I have a whole generation of my younger kids who have never seen this circus and I'm stoked to take them.

The Jordan World Circus will be in Utah from January 25 (my birthday!) through February 6. I've even managed to come up with a coupon for you.

$10 OFF 'Family Pack' - ONLINE ONLY - Family Pack is good for '2 Adults + 3 Children (Ages 3 to 12 years)'
Please Visit EventBrite to select your location for ticket purchase. Discount Is Good for Utah Locations Only On Family Pack. Please Use Code "FamilyFun."

We will be at the one in South Jordan. Hope to see you there! I'm thinking we can wear our snazzy new green blog shirts, so if you see one of us, please say hello. It will probably be too hot for the hats though...

Making Aprons

When Beauty and The Beast got married, I made cute little relatively useless aprons for the serving girls. I could have taken the easy way out and done that again for Teach and Twiz, but you know me...

So I had my Activity Days girls over today with the idea that they would each make their own apron and then they would be able to serve at the wedding if they wanted. Drama Queen helped me set up 3 sewing machines on one table and then another table for hand-sewing and pinning.

It was absolutely crazy!

We had nine girls here and only a couple of them had any sewing experience at all. I guess it's a dying art. Anyway, threads kept breaking and pins kept poking. Their simple gathering stitches kept pulling right on through and then they would have to sew them again.

We only had an hour and 15 minutes, but it seemed like an eternity and no progress (and no time for pictures). But like everything else, they finally came together and they are so cute! I convinced Crafty to model one for you, but she only agreed because I promised not to show you what she looks like with wet hair.

The picture just doesn't do them justice. They are sparkly and glittery. I'll have to make sure you see one in the wedding lighting. Can you believe we only have a little over a month to have everything ready? And the shower is NEXT WEEK! Anybody have time to piece a couple of king-sized quilts for me?
