King Midas

About 7:30 tonight when I got home from the district meeting for Princess's trip to Washington DC, Sport casually mentioned that he had to do a little play about King Midas.... tomorrow! OK, maybe he wasn't so casual. He was pretty much freaking out at that point. He's a lot like Princess, he doesn't do anything halfway.

The Dog Walker took him to the dollar store so he could find some gold things while Princess and I ran to the grocery store. They were much more productive. He brought back fake coins, little trophies, and a gold piggy bank. It was a good start, but we were still trying to come up with something to help him turn things to gold.

I found a bag full of metallic gold flag scraps and Curly pulled a piece of gold fabric from the craftroom. Drama Queen rounded up a gold sweater and the only thing left was a crown. I'm so glad she is a pro at costuming! She even came up with a way for him to throw metallic fabric scraps from his sleeves so it looked like he really had the Midas Touch.

What would you do if you had the "touch"? Would you want gold? Or maybe something a bit more useful... say... chocolate?

Blast from the Past: Baby Dog Walker, 1994

We have had many discussions about the Dog Walker, but I wanted to show you some pics from when he was little. He didn't like wearing clothes as you can tell.

He loved music, even the recorder. Bossy is in about 5th grade here, so that was probably hers.

We dressed him in the little Superman outfit often because it snapped up the back so he couldn't get it off by himself. If we kept him in clothes for an hour a day, we considered it a success.

He's a bit older in this last picture. The back says 1997, but I don't think he was quite 4. He got that little scab on his nose. It started out tiny, but he could not keep his hands off it.

He actually got pretty obsessed with it. By the time it nearly covered the entire bridge of his nose, we started using liquid bandage to keep him from bothering it.

It was several months before it was completely healed, and if you look closely, you can still see that tiny scar on his nose.

And on his shins... his feet...
his arms...

Guest Blog: St. Patrick's Day by Baby Doll

Today was St. Patrick's Day.  That's a day when you have to wear green.  Otherwise you'll get pinched.  I wore a green leotard and some green tights for dance.  For breakfast, I ate a green biscuit and for lunch I ate Frozen cereal.  Then I went to Bossy's house.  We watched My Little Pony and Barbie Life in the Dream House.  They are my favorite.  It was really fun.

We went to Chik-fil-a Kid's Club.  I made a hat and wrote some words.  Drama Queen helped me.  And we got to pretend to be workers at Chik-fil-a and serve people ice cream.  Then we got an ice cream!  For free!  And then we went home.

And then the kids played Tramp-Ball-Tag and we watched a movie called The Secret of the Kells.  There was a fairy in the movie and a boy and an old man.  The fairy lived in the forest and the boy was trying to go out of the city wall into the forest, but it was too dangerous in the forest and his Uncle said he couldn't go out of the city walls because there was dangerous stuff out of the city walls.  And he went into the forest!  And then bad guys came and then the movie stopped working and we don't know how it ended.  :(

For dinner we ate green jello, and we ate cabbage, and we ate potatoes with cheese and butter and ham.  It  was yummy.  Mom and Dad and Grandpa went to Prima Donna and Crafty's Monster Concert.  The girls did really good.  Princess also showed us this cool experiment that she learned for Pre-school.  She had these green ball things and we poured some water things and then it did this cool trick and disappeared.  There were coins inside and then we got to play with the coins and sticky stuff came with them.

Finally, after scriptures Dad told us about how he got a raise!  We are so happy for him and everyone ate a little bowl of ice cream before bed.  Then Drama Queen and I wrote the blog so Mom could go to sleep.  She was so tired.  It was a good St. Patrick's Day.  How was yours?

First Softball Practice for Scout

It's started!

Scout had her first softball practice tonight. The weather was so beautiful that she didn't even wear a jacket although by the time it was almost 8:00, I think she was starting to regret that decision.

They spent most of their time working on throwing and fielding. Scout is a little rusty. Although she has been in the yard with the kids playing catch, she is clearly out of practice.

I know I seem to have forgotten how it feels to wait in the car for an hour and a half while she gets to enjoy playing ball. Their games don't officially start until April 7, so we have a little time to get both of us ready for the season.

But once spring sports start, there is no way of denying that spring is practically here.

Everything is turning green just in time for St. Patrick's Day. Hope you remembered! I sure don't want to get pinched.
