Have you seen anything about the wildfires in Utah on the news? Saratoga Springs was burning a few days ago, but I think it's out now. That's where my sister lives and I have Tupperware friends there. We felt the smoke and ash here where we are, but that's nothing compared to the fires burning in Sanpete County.
I've told you forever that I'm from small-town Utah and now I must confess that I am from Sanpete County. My sweetie is from a small place named Mt. Pleasant and my MIL still lives there as does my sweetie's sister and her family.
There is a fire burning there. A BIG one!
Today they evacuated the town of Fairview. It is only five miles north of Mt. Pleasant. We are supposed to go down there for the 4th, but maybe there will be nothing left to go to! Everything is so dry this year. We didn't get the snow in the winter and now we aren't getting any rain for the summer either. I'm afraid it's going to be a long, long dry season here. I borrowed a couple of pics from the story on KSL.com. (I hope they are OK with that.)

My MIL sent us this email today:
"They have now evacuated the west half of Fairview.
Cars and trailers are streaming into town. Some trailers stay at our park. The
Red Cross has shelter set up at our High School. There are quite a few cars
there.
There is another fire just over the east mountains
from us. the smoke can be seen just east of my window and north quite a ways.
They evacuated the girls from Miller's Flat YW camp. So far it is staying on
the other side of the mountain. If it comes over it'll get Whispering Pines and
Pine Creek cabins and the new TIFI Scout camp is up there."
Hope the fires are put out soon.
ReplyDeleteWhy would you think that we'll never go to grandma's for the 4th of July when the fires just barely got put out? Maybe we'll have a chance to go before we go to Nauvoo.
ReplyDeleteColorado has gotten the most press in my area. Fires are terrifying things. I pray you and your family are spared and I also pray for the brave men and women who fight these devils.
ReplyDeleteStay safe.
Here is hoping the fires are out soon. Too bad we can't take our flooding and send it out west. Not all of it, of course, because we were in a bit of a drought situation ourselves but enough for a nice soaking.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I have an old YW leader who lives in Sararoga Springs and she was evacuated from we house, but is back there now. Ww're having a super dry summer (or rather a super dry 2 years). I hope all your loved ones are safe and that the fires go away and stay away!
ReplyDeleteMy 2nd home is Colorado and it is devastating to hear about all this mess. My sister's boyfriend recently moved here from Ft. Collins and his family is dealing with all this around the Poudre River area. It breaks my heart because I have been to everywhere they are mentioning. I hope rain gets there soon or something else can be done.
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Shell's PYHO!
My sister is out in Colorado Springs, and it's such a scary situation! I hope they're out soon.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard anything about Utah, just CO. I will be praying for those people! I used to live in Southern CA and was evacuated a few times due to the fires... Scary stuff.
ReplyDeleteI had just seen pics of the CO ones. How scary!
ReplyDeleteIt has been non stop coverage here in Colorado. A lot of my friends have been evacuated from the Waldo Canyon Fire. We are safe and will be praying for you guys in UT too. Lived in Colorado Springs until I got married. So I am really on top of that fire. Our Stake goes to Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, and Manitou Springs where the fire is at and taking homes.
ReplyDeleteI have family that live out that way! Very scary! Hoping they get it all taken care of soon!
ReplyDeleteVery scary. I hope you and your family stay safe!
ReplyDeleteThat is so scary. I am so sorry.
ReplyDeleteI will keep everyone in my prayers.
I hope your family and your husbands family and their homes are safe! What a scary thing! And the 4th of July isn't even here yet....
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad and scary what is happening in that part of the country. We are praying for all the families out there both in the way of the fires and out.. it affects everyone. COME ON GOD SEND THE RAIN!! RAIN!! RAIN!!!
