Their First 5K

Yesterday Drama Queen told you all about an assignment for Crafty that took them to the Dinosaur Museum at Thanksgiving Point. It has been an interesting semester for her and she does homework pretty much every day to take care of these four classes. Thankfully, next Friday is the end of the semester.

Anyway, on Thursday, I was just scrolling through the assignments making sure we hadn't missed anything when up popped an extra credit option for her fitness class. If she ran in a real race, she could receive bonus points. A real race! I know when we were prepping for the Cookie Chaser, the girls had to sign up early and now that this would be the final weekend to count, I was more than a bit stressed that we wouldn't be able to find a 5K here in Utah that she could still register for with the race day being on July 29th.

It was a tall order, but after about half and hour of dead ends, I finally stumbled across one that looked like it might work. It one place it said final registration was June 16, but it still looked like registration was open, so I tried it.

Within a couple of minutes, I had Crafty registered to do the Potter Run in West Jordan, and since she didn't want to do it herself, I also registered Baby Doll.

We showed up on Saturday morning bright and early. There were reportedly 700 runners, but I think some of them were not actually in West Jordan. The girls did a walk/run and they were pretty excited when they crossed the finish line.

They each received these fancy medallions and a banana (I don't know... potassium maybe?) Scout bought herself a cute pair of time turner earrings at one of the booths and it was fun to see all of the people dressed in their Harry Potter attire.

Not a bad experience for our first race (other than the $25 entrance fee) and she got extra credit besides.

  1. Amazing how you look for things to further support your children. Way to go Crafty and BabyDoll. That looked like a great race to be in with costumes and all. Blessings and hugs~
