We arrived at the park only moments before the game began. The parking was brutal, but we managed to get our chairs set up near the 20-yard line right before kickoff. It was hot and muggy, but my sweetie set up the umbrella so that helped keep us mostly comfortable.
The girls had ransacked our old cheerleading costume bag before we left and they managed to find uniforms for Crafty, Scout, and Baby Doll. Curly and Princess wore old jerseys that belonged to Sport, and Prima Donna slipped on a Bingham Bands shirt so that worked too.
The game moved quickly with both teams running their 4 plays and then surrendering the ball so the other side could have their turn. By the end of the third quarter the score was still 0 - 0. The boys finally let Riverton score their first touchdown, but they denied them the extra point. After a second touchdown, our boys managed to punch one through and they scored as well.
My little cheerleaders did a little halftime show of cartwheels, splits and somersaults, and they worked hard to keep the boys pumped up, but by the time the final whistle blew, Riverton had scored again and we lost 19 - 7. Sport was devastated! He hates to lose and as the Center, he always blames himself for everything.
I know he was disappointed, but we still have plenty of games for the boys to redeem themselves. And I think these cheerleaders of mine have a great future too!
No person can be the entire football team, there will be other opportunities to score and help to score, it is a good way to teach kids that winning isn't everything!
