I love the County Fair! I've told you before about entering stuff in the fair as a kid, and maybe that's why, but even though life is pretty busy, we try to always make time to visit the fair. It's free except for parking and we always come away with lots of freebies.
We got there tonight about 7:45 since we had to wait for Taco and Sport to finish with football practice. We piled everyone into the big van so we wouldn't have to pay to park two vehicles. As I pulled Baby Doll from her car seat, I realized we were missing shoes. She only had one little flip-flop with her. Thank goodness we had the stroller.
We headed straight for the information desk to cash in our free reading tickets. (Yeah, even the fair gives something away for summer reading!) Crafty, Sport, Scout, Curly, Taco, and Burrito were each given 3 ride tickets for the carnival, coupons, and ribbons.
Our first stop after that was the craft booth for the kids. They each made a keychain and then signed up for the 9:00 class too. We wandered around and stopped at each booth, sometimes spinning for prizes, sometimes just getting a sucker or a tootsie roll. At the Living Scriptures booth, Bossy and I each scored a free video for listening to a short presentation.
My sweetie bought Baby Doll a cheap pair of flip-flops to get her though until we got back home. The boys loved the karate booth where they got to kick and punch. We got pencils, chapstick, bags, and lots of candy. At 9:00 we made our way back to the craft booth and the kids made clothespin horses. Curly and Baby Doll were so proud of theirs!
We finally made our way outside so the kids could spend their free ride coupons. As always, the little ones shared with the big ones and each kid ended up going on two rides. Baby Doll and Curly LOVED the boats! Since it was slow, the rides went around about twice as long as normal. Scout and Baby Doll and I rode the carousel for at least 5 minutes while the operator was texting his girlfriend. Not that we minded, the girls love the horses.
It was 10:30 before we finally got back to the van and drove our sleepy children home. I can hardly wait to go back next year, I'll probably need more pencils by then.
Ah, what a great time!!! Going to the fair is a tradition of ours, this year the husband and i have season passes so it looks like we can go every day if we choose! YAY!!!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love merry-go-rounds. In Broome County, NY, there are 6 working wooden carousels manufactured in the late 1800's to the early 1900's. They were donated by one of the owners of Endicott Johnson shoe company. His one stipulation was that they may not charge for rides. 5 of the carousels follow that stipulation. The carousel at the zoo's admission is one piece of trash. The area outside that carousel is very clean. ;)
