Traveling as Two - Louisville, Kentucky

We got up early (are you noticing a trend?), packed an overnight bag, and headed for Kentucky. Our first stop was the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory tour.

Babe Ruth's bat.

We loved this place! It was so fun to see how they make wooden bats for the major league players and to sell in stores.

After we left the museum, we stopped at Lonnie's for lunch.

I really enjoyed my traditional Chicago hot dog. My sweetie was a little underwhelmed. Soon it was time to check in to our hotel. We had a beautiful suite at Embassy Suites my sweetie got for free with his Hilton Rewards points.  After a good rester, we decided to go out for dinner at a little Mexican place my sweetie discovered online.

He was much happier with the food.

Then it was time for bed.

More Kentucky fun tomorrow.

Traveling as Two - French Lick

Today was supposed to be our down day, and my sweetie made us caramel apples for breakfast.

Then we decided to explore French Lick. First, we drove past Larry Bird's childhood home and the high school where he started his climb to basketball fame.

See that street sign? It says Larry Bird Blvd.

Then we decided to drive out to the West Baden Springs Hotel.

I had read about this hotel and its restoration and I really wanted to see it for myself.

I was blown away! They had it partially blocked off because they were putting up the Christmas tree, but we still were able to get some amazing pictures.

As we walked the circle around the dome, we noticed they had little shops and even a museum!

It was definitely worth the drive!

Back at the condo, we watched movies and I worked on a stocking for Crafty. My sweetie made us a delicious steak dinner.

It was the perfect down day.

Heading to Kentucky tomorrow...

Traveling as Two - Indiana

We got up early on Sunday morning. It was time to check out of our hotel and leave Nashville. We found the nearest true church and we enjoyed Sacrament meeting from the back row.

We still couldn't get away from the rain. After church we started our 3-hour drive to French Lick, Indiana.

We drove through a little town called Santa Claus.

No. Seriously.

It looked like a really fun place, but we had to keep moving. We hadn't remembered that Indiana was an hour later and we needed to check into the condo before 5:00pm.

We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and watching TV. The condo is really nice, but definitely 70s.

Tomorrow is an easy day.
See you soon.

Traveling as Two - Ryman Auditorium

When I dreamed of trips to Nashville, one of the things I really wanted to see was the Grand Ole Opry. I didn't realize that it had been moved until I started researching for this trip. Seeing the Opry had to happen in two places; it's new home, and it's old home, at the Ryman.

Unfortunately, our available days would only allow for a comedy show at the Ryman, but I will get to that later.

So I scheduled a 9:00 Saturday morning tour and I was not disappointed. The Ryman was everything I was expecting.

After scouring the gift shop for a good deal, we left the Ryman and we decided to walk to our lunch appointment at the Hard Rock Cafe.

I got a great deal on this blanket for my sweetie...

After lunch, we stopped at the Boot Barn and the candy shop. Then it started to rain so we hurried to our car and drove back to the hotel.

We needed a rester before we headed back downtown for the comedy show at the Ryman. Besides, we wanted to dress up a bit.

I thought the opening act was much funnier than the main comedian, but we had good searmates and I enjoyed the show.

We were quick to our car, but it still took us a good hour to get back to the hotel in the rain.

Leaving Nashville tomorrow. Indiana, here we come!!

Traveling as Two - Meeting up with Rainy

Friday was our day with no plans. My sweetie had to do some work in the morning, but after a while, he asked me if I wanted to visit Fort Negley. It was a beautiful day!

Then we drove to Centennial Park to see the Parthenon.

After that, we drove past the Tennesee State Capitol.

And we took a walk on the Shelby Bridge.

We stopped at Johnny Cash's Bar and Grill since we enjoyed those pastrami sliders and the fried corn so much yesterday (and they had a good restroom!). Then we drove back to the hotel for a little rester. We had about an hour before it was time to meet up with my niece, Rainy, and her cute family. My sweetie did the Santa thing.

Love this cute girl! So glad we had a chance to see them.
