We had two special things that happened today, but I'm just going to tell you about one and save the other for tomorrow. This morning most of us got together at Teach and Twiz's church so we could witness Twizlet's name and blessing. (No, he didn't really name her Twizlet...)
Twiz's dad came out from New Jersey so he could participate in the ordinance. It was a pretty tight circle! Oh wait, maybe you have no idea what I'm talking about...
Let's back up for a second.
In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, babies are blessed and given a name officially in the church when they are a couple of months old. This is different from their baptism day which usually happens shortly after they turn 8 years old. In fact, on Saturday morning, our nephew was baptized, so it's been a busy weekend.
Back to babies... the person giving the name and blessing holds the baby and then other invited family members and friends who hold the Melchizedek priesthood are invited to stand in a close circle around the infant and offer their support spiritually and physically to the child. Usually the person giving the blessing is the father or grandfather. This happens in a Sunday sacrament meeting, typically on the first Sunday of the month.
So anyway, Twiz gave a beautiful blessing and after the meeting was over we met up at a park and shared breakfast. Drama Queen had made banana bread and I must confess that it is one of my greatest weaknesses. Good thing I'm starting another diet tomorrow...
Oh I love the photo of this sweet occasion. Of course, I love baby blessings. They are always so endearing and the spirit is present. I am sure you loved every moment. That baby is just beautiful and so much hair.
ReplyDeleteSending loving thoughts your way and I will hope to hear the real name of this beautiful baby girl.
Big hugs!
