A week or so ago I received an email from a place called The Giving Tie. I'm not sure how they found me amongst all the other bloggers out there, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that Teach is on a mission for our church.
Missionaries have a pretty strict dress code when they are out preaching the gospel. The girls have to wear skirts or dresses and they have to be long enough to cover the front and the back of the knee when they sit down. I don't know if you've been out shopping for that sort of skirt lately, but they aren't that easy to find!
The guys have to wear slacks and white shirts with ties. Most missions also require a suit jacket. And there are specific rules about the ties. They can't have silly sayings or pictures on them. No sports teams or other advertisements. They have to be classy and businesslike. Pretty much like these you see on the Dog Walker.
The Giving Tie sent both of these to the Dog Walker so he could show you how awesome they look on a prospective missionary or anyone else who needs a tie. The thing I like about these is that seem to be quite long which the Dog Walker at almost 6'5" needs so they don't look silly.
They have a bunch of styles and patterns and they only cost $10 each. I don't know if you have priced ties lately, but that's a real bargain! When I was looking for a new tie for the Dog Walker at Christmas time, most ties ran more than $20 and that was just for one.
The best thing about the Giving Tie is that for every tie that is purchased from their website they give a free tie to someone in need. Those needy people include missionaries, recent converts, and even people who would just like to investigate the LDS church.
My dad's birthday is coming up in September, and this would be the perfect gift for him! He would love the idea that he is helping people at the same time he is enjoying a new tie.
The Dog Walker looks like a fine missionary! |
My oldest brother served his mission 30 years ago in Thailand. The people were poor and a program like this would have been wonderful for them.
Right now The Giving Tie is offering free shipping to anyone who orders 3 or more ties. But even better than that, they told me I could give away a couple of these beautiful ties to my readers!
All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me why you would like to have one of these nice new ties and which one is your favorite. Tweeting or sharing this contest will give you an extra entry. Just tell me what you did. (Limit of 5 entries per person.)
I will put your name in a random drawing and two winners will be chosen on Saturday, July 13, 11:59 pm.
Good luck!
**I was given 2 ties for writing this post, but the opinions are strictly my own.**
I would love to win one of these nice ties for Chris! Emma's diaper exploded a few weeks ago after church and got some poop on one of his ties.... They both look great, but I especially love the green one.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Dog Walker looks fantastic in his shirt and tie! Very missionary-like!
I want to win this tie because, Hey, Free Tie! I like the gray one because I have a black suit and if I ever want to change careers to be an undertaker I'll need a lot of colorless ties.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if that tie fits Dogwalker and he's 6'5" I guess I can tuck the tie into my shoes (I'm 5'8").
One last thing. As a follower of your blog I have some advice: Stop spending money on fancy vacations and just put a pool in the backyard. You drive all over tarnation just to get to a hotel with a swimming pool. Cut out the middle man!

I like the checkered blue one for my father in law. Thanks!

Having a hard time choosing between ties. The green one I've never seen 1 like before but the striped is super professional. I would like one because my husband is a tad messy and stains his ties often. Plus as a tall big guy longer ties are a must. Thnx!
ReplyDeleteI love the green tie! I have 3 boys who have "grown" out of their current ties. Free tie? Yes! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win a tie for my nephew that is preparing for his mission. I really like the green one.
ReplyDeleteI'm preparing my son for his mission to the Philippines and having a real hard time finding long ties that are afforadable. I would love to win either of these ties.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
They are BOTH good looking ties! But the striped one is probably the one my hubby would prefer... I think... I've never actually bought him a tie. He is still wearing his missionary ties from 10 years ago! Maybe it is about time for something new, heh?
ReplyDeletemy husband needs to wear a tie for work, and has a hard time finding nice ones, one of these would be perfect for him. I love the white paisley from the website, but he'd probably go with the geometric green.
